In You (Glory in the Highest)
Written 15 August 2008
This is the third in a recent flux of writing I've done since moving up to Joplin, MO. Unlike the first two, "Where It Begins" and "Prayer of Commission", "In You" is an out-and-out praise song. There are several things I, somewhat subconciously, gravitate toward when writing in this style. First, the message should live up to its category, i.e. a praise song. These are not the intimate songs to express personal doubts. In fact, point two is that while it may speak to you or any individual directly, the primary audience is a congregation, and therefore I try to make the elements of the song more simple in style. The ideal is to have a melody simple enough that the first time someone hears the song, they can sing along by the second time through the verse and chorus.
Now, I'm by no means speaking from a place of authority on the matter, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the subject before humbly subjecting you to a viewing of this fun little song. I hope to soon record an acoustic track of it for an mp3, and, even before that, put up a .pdf of the music, perhaps with a creative commons license for all to use.

In You, O Lord, I take refuge; In You, O Lord, I rest. In You, O Lord, I place my trust; In You, O Lord, I'm blessed I will sing Your praises! Your mighty power amazes me! In You, O Lord, I find new strength; In You, O Lord, I'm sealed. In You, O Lord, I place my hope; In You, O Lord, I'm healed. I will sing Your praises! Your mighty power amazes me! Glory in the highest! Glory in the highest, Lord Jesus! Glory in the highest! We praise You, Lord, for everything: Glory to God in the highest! repeat V1, V2, PC, C |
